Gabrielle McLeod is the Queen of Detroit Jit. In her journey to push the development of Jit’s culture, Gabby has won the Kresge Artist Fellowship for Live Arts; performed in the opera “BLUE”, the Slippage project with the Detroit Institute of Art and Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art; performed for the Smithsonian National Museum of African American History and Culture; showcased Jit in Paris, France; taught at universities across the country, including the University of Michigan, Wayne State University, Oakland University, Eastern Michigan University, and Arizona State University; Taught workshops across the country including: New York, Los Angeles, Las Vegas, Phoenix, Atlanta, and Detroit; is the Director for the Detroit Pistons Jit Team, and has been featured on platforms like Red Bull, Snipes, and Forbes Magazine. Gabby’s mission is to shine a light on this city’s hidden gem and educate future generations on the history of Detroit Jit.
