Genesis “Genesis Be” Briggs is an MC from Biloxi, Mississippi. Genesis Be utilizes hip hop and visual art as a tool to educate and inspire young people to be proactive in civic engagement with her organization: Strive Till I Rise. Genesis Be captivated America with her bold theatrical protest against the Mississippi state flag in 2016. Coverage from news outlets such as ABC News, New York Daily News, VICE Impact, and Billboard allowed Genesis Be to share her message of racial healing, community building, and youth empowerment nationwide. In 2017, she was the subject of a Moral Courage Project documentary: Confederate Pride, White Supremacy & My State Flag. Genesis Be has shared stages with notables such as the co-chair of the 2017 Women’s March Linda Sarsour, actress Aunjanue Ellis, Congresswoman Barbara Lee, and Jeffery Robinson, deputy legal director and the director of the American Civil Liberties Union’s Trone Center for Justice and Equality.
