As 2016 comes to a close, we want to take some time to reflect on some of our favorite moments of the past year. Though of course we are very proud of the larger-scale initiatives we have developed and the partnerships and collaborations we have been privileged to take part in, sometimes it’s the small spontaneous activities that can really put things in perspective.
In August, we visited Cartagena, Colombia with MC Deidre “D.S.Sense” Smith, DJ Raymond “Raedawn” Pirtle, beat maker Danny “Supreme La Rock” Clavesilla, and B-boy Victor “Kid Glyde” Alicea.
We always try to use our residencies as an opportunity to connect with musicians of local, traditional styles to mix hip hop with different forms of music. In Cartagena, the Next Level Team collaborated with La Banda Armonia de Bolivar, an ensemble that plays traditional Costeño musical styles including Porro and Fandango.
